Did You Know that…

 

  • The first documented case of what we know call Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD was in 1845 by Dr. Heinrich Hoffman. It was published as “The Story of Fidgety Philip.”
  • ADHD is a neurological disorder involving higher cortical functions in the brain.
  • There are many costs for untreated individuals with ADHD and their families. Individuals with ADHD tend to have higher medical bills from accidents and injuries, experience decreased productivity at work, and experience a higher number of co-occurring medical problems.
  • The most common secondary effects of ADHD are depression, low self-esteem, and fatigue.
  • Separate learning disorders are much more likely in individuals with ADHD.
  • Boys are four times more likely to have ADHD than girls.
